Aitken Spence became
a wholly Sri Lankan owned business venture in 1968, exactly
100 years after its inception. During the period of economic
liberalisation, the Company was converted to a public listed
company in 1983. Tourism remains the company’s core business
although diversified interests exist in a range of industries
including freight forwarding and garment manufacture.
The company continues to be a leading player in the tourism
sector in
Sri Lanka, constantly seeking to innovate and expand its services
in the industry. They currently have a chain of top-class hotels
in both Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Aitken Spence company has been listed as one of the most successful companies outside USA below one billion dollars in annual sales by the prestigious Forbes magazine for the third consecutive year.
DCSL owns 28.83 % of the shares of Aitken Spence & Co. Ltd.
