Distilleries Company wins top spot at Business Today Top 10 - 2007

The Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka was ranked number 1 at the Business Today Top 10 awards ceremony held under the patronage of His Excellency, Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, Venerable Galaboda Gnanissara Thero, the Chief Priest of the Gangarama Temple and Sanga Nayaka of the Western Province, several ministers, members of Parliament, distinguished guests of the diplomatic community as well as the heads of the winning companies and other business leaders.

The award was conferred on the company, based on its performance during the period 2006/2007. Distilleries is one of the companies from the manufacturing sector that has continuously qualified to be in the Business Today Top 10.

Speaking at the event, Harry Jayawardena, Chairman of Distilleries said, “First of all I must thank BT Options for continuing this great noble duty in recognizing all Sri Lankan entrepreneurs as well as all leading businesses in Sri Lanka. Ii believe it was your idea a long time ago, to give them the right of place, We are very proud today to attain the number one position”.

The company, which is a landmark success in privatization, has stamped its mark on how to make an average performer a superior performer by strategically diversifying and relentlessly pursuing excellence.
